Anyone ready to get their Holiday Spirit on? In this workshop series, Holidays Around the World, students will explore traditions, foods and music celebrated by cultures around the globe.
In addition to holidays we are all familiar, such as Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa; put on your explorer hat and uncover some of the more unusual and amusing Holiday traditions of other cultures:
This is a “hybrid workshop” - 3 all-virtual meetings with our 4th evening culminating in a surprise outdoor “socially distanced” outdoor meetup.
In addition to holidays we are all familiar, such as Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa; put on your explorer hat and uncover some of the more unusual and amusing Holiday traditions of other cultures:
- Krampus in Germany, Austria and Hungary
- Night of the Radishes in Mexico
- The Yule Cat in Iceland
- And more!

Theresa Giacobbe-Grieco received her Masters degree in psychology from Long Island University and has worked in human services for more than 30 years. She has found great joy in being part of improving the quality of life for a diverse range of individuals. She is actively involved in her community and a board member and leader of various organizations. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 15 years, a Catechist, a member of the Friends of the Smithtown Library and League of Women Voters. She is involved in the Cornell Cooperative Master Gardener program and is a member of the Peconic Land Trust’s Charnews Garden. Theresa was also awarded the NYS PTA Lifetime Achievement Award. She is a long-time resident of Smithtown along with her husband Steve and two recently married daughters. She enjoys spending time on the beautiful North Fork of Long Island and has traveled extensively around the world.
