This virtual online course will review the history of man’s relationship with animals from the earliest known recording. We will review various topics including:
The domestication of wild animals into pets
The study of various animal species
How to assess and learn about human impact on wildlife
The various ways that we can help save and protect
animals.
Students will experience new methods of learning by interacting with PBS ACE Instructors and classmates through virtual learning systems. Via video conferencing, we will dive into learning everything about the animal kingdom. We will explore basic care of domesticated pets, review human impact on wildlife, discuss what extinction means, and explore endangered animals from around the globe. In the process, we will look at worldwide efforts to preserve wildlife and to rescue pets that have been maltreated or neglected.

Jackie Gates is an animal lover and Behavior Analyst. From a young age, she has been enthralled with animals, studying various species and volunteering in her local animal shelter. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her two cats, Kylo Ren and Mowgli, running with her sister’s dog, Tank, and watching reality veterinarian shows such as Dr. Oakley, Yukon Vet and the Incredible Dr. Pol. Jackie has had many pets, including a dwarf hamster, betta fish, a dog, and five cats. She has enjoyed the fun times and love that come from domesticated animals and the wonders of learning about earth’s majestic wild creatures.
